Situation in South Thailand (1 Viewer)

We are planning a tour in Thailand. We've been several times in Thailand (and elsewhere in the world, with partly travel warnings). In 2001, we had been in the south (Songkhla and vicinity). Now there are serious travel advices for the south.

As a suggestion we read trip reports. There are some recent reports for the South: eg http://www.pbase.com/peterericsson/southernthailand2014
and http://souththailandbirding.com/Feb-2014---Ian--and--Nigel.php
http://www.norththailandbirding.com/pages/trip_reports/2014/05_08.html

So we think you must survive a tour if you are informed about the current situation on the ground, but then avoid certain places and behaves carefully ?

Has anyone latest information about the situation for individual trips for which there may be no report?

My attitude is that if you can see pretty much all the same species in Malaysia, why take the risk?

Hala Bala is supposed to be amazing, but...

Hi David,
Thanks you for your assessment.
We are here for a few weeks in Thailand and will avoid the South now. We was at last time 10 years ago in Malaysia, but not in the north.
But there are in the other parts of Thailand also still many interesting places.
