Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher (Polioptila caerulea caerulea) There are nine recognized subspecies with two being mapped for Texas. Subspecies amoenissima is a non breeding bird in western Texas while the nominate is both a breeding bird to North and Central Texas and a wintering bird in Texas from Central Texas south and east. Males are darker and brighter colored than females in breeding season but similar in non breeding season. Photographed in Hazel Bazemore County Park, Calallen, Nueces County, Texas, USA. Adjacent to the Nueces River at ca. 1 m (3.3 ft) elevation.
