Wow! What a shot! Such a beautiful bird. I have a Galah story. We lived aboard our sailboat in Australia for a few years. We made landfall in Bundaberg. Every morning about eight of us would meet on the dock and take a mile or so walk to the sugar loading dock and back. An Aussie couple always took a bit of meat for their Magpie friend. It was Australia, so of course, we would see lots of birds on the walk. There was a point where I was unable to get out of bed and walk; it turned out I had contracted Ross River Fever. So I stayed in while the rest walked. One morning my husband came back and said a Galah got on his shoulder! He saw the bird up on a wire and said, "Hello, Mr. Galah. Why don't you come down and see me." The bird flew to the ground, very close to my husband. Then husband reaches down and says, "Why don't you climb up my arm?" The bird did and perched on his shoulder. I said what BS or something equivalent. I climbed out of the boat and greeted my neighbor. Before I said anything, she asks if Gene told me about the Galah that got on his shoulder. I asked where the bird was and hobbled down the dock (feet locked in a 90 degree angle), jumped on my pushie and rode off. Mr. Galah was gone, of course. Later, we found out a lady in one of the near-by houses, fed and put out baths for the birds. He had become very friendly.

A lovely story. I always try to coax wild birds to be more confident with me and it does pay off when food is involved too!
