Not sure if he is a finch or not
Went bird watching just around my neighbourhood found this little cutie having a feed on the grass seed heads I have to say they are very hard to photograph you zoom in on them and dada their gone hehe very fast.

It's a Chestnut-breasted Mannikin, a female I think. Lonchura castaneothorax. A member of the Grass-finches, for the reasons you mention!

How lovely this picture is Shell. We don't see pictures of this species coming in too often, and even fewer of the female!!

As we don't currently have a picture of the lady on the Opus article, I'll upload this one there shortly. Many thanks for sharing it with us.

A super image of this Mannikin Shell and I'm assuming it's a lifer so a big CONGRATS !
 
Oh thanks every one yes it is a lifer I have never seen it before but there were many of them flying around the long grasses eating the seeds thank you so much you made my day and I will have to look up on my Aussie bird life
