West Midlands/Warwickshire local patches. (1 Viewer)

Bit of luck at Draycote this morning when, after trying to get shots of some Yellow Wagtails on Farborough bank and failing very badly, this chap was found not far from the lifebelt by another birder.

The only trouble was that it took flight before I could get a shot of it on the water. Not complaining though : a life tick.It flew off over the sewage works and was not seen again I don't think.

Max.

Well Well Well, how many years as it took, Can this be right, Max in the right place at the right time.
Nice one Max well done mate.;););)

High Steve,
It had to happen sometime;);)

Jeff,Hippo : Regarding reporting the Manx I sent a text to Birdguides straight away.I must have made an error because they never put it out.I am sure only 3 birders saw it because it soon flew off.

New website for Upton Warren!

A new website for Upton Warren has now gone 'live'. This is in direct response to the growing interest in the reserve and to bring together all the photographs, articles and sightings that have been provided to the Worcester Birding website over the past 3 years. More will be added to the site over the coming weeks and months.

Hope you like it: www.uptonwarrenbirding.co.uk

as per bob the birder i quote.
http://bobduckhouses.blogspot.com/2009/09/birding-at-draycote.html#comments

I have no problem with the photographers I saw with the Pectoral Sand at Draycote. They approached and equally importantly left the bird with great care. The bird continued feeding quite normally?

well put bob. none of the photograhers in that picture did anything to upset the birds present and as already stated there was only 3 birds feeding on it 2 dunlin 1 pec!
and just for the record the bird approached the photographers not vice versa so tell the bird to back off.....
i must say people moan about there actions but if you look on dracote water site 90% of all the pics are from a low angle so i can only asume everyone hops over the wall?
which includes regulars to the site!
if they were fishing nothing would of been said is there any difference as long as people behave and respect wildlife
birders/photographers should be as one we all have the same interests!!!

but as has already been said - people are strongly discouraged from going down to the shoreline so they do not disturb birds. even if one or more people do do it and have field craft and may not disturb birds, other members of the public may follow suit and not be that skillfull. How pissed of would you be if you went to twitch a bird that has jus been flushed by some kids playing on the shore and they thought it was ok because someone else did it? just because someone steals cars does that mean you should go and do it?!

the fisherman argument is void. it is a reservoir owned by a water company - they stocked the reservoir so that people could go there to fish. the fact that it is massive and attracts in birds for us to see is a by product. the fishermen pay a lot more money to fish there than people do to go bird watching there and if they flush a bird its annoying but unfortunately tough.

get over it

I remembered but I think it should be in CAPS.I'll have to check.

BIRDS RPT

You know they've got it 'cause they send a reply back straight away, then if the person at the other end can be bothered to post the news out they do. i did look at RBA, but they don't seem to send email alerts as far as i can see otherwise i'd have prob. switched over by now.

I see that 3 Glossy Ibis have been reported on RBA in Halesowen today, I was just wondering if anyone has got any further information as to where they were seen etc? It seems a strange place for them to be found as there isn't too much open water/streams in Halesowen!!

Glossy Ibis

They were reported to fly NW over the Fire Station at 3.20pm. Must have left the hoses on.

Birders v Photographers.....Part 17.

Well said Gareth.

They shouldn't have been there and that is all there is to it. They will keep on making excuses but that just sums up the totally selfish attitude of many these days.

You are also right about the rights of the fishermen. They pay an awful lot of cash to be there. However, as we have heard they occasionally get up into the 'Conservation Area', presumably when there are certain wind directions affecting fish or casting etc.

How on earth are we to put up a case to stop this when all and sundry are seen setting up camp on the shoreline?

And while I' m at it can someone from the lens brigade tell me what compels you to litter forums like this with scores of photos that really are so below average. I for one have no interest in looking at all these waders when they all look the same. The recent Barwits are a good example. We can see a photo of a Barwit looking left; we can see another of a Barwit looking right and on and on and on. At least a Barwit is slightly better than a Dunlin just sitting there.

What does it all prove. We know what a Dunlin looks like and most on here (but not all) can successfully ID a Barwit. Actually some do struggle with Dunlin so maybe I ll think about this.

The point is, over the past weeks only David Hutton has taken pictures that are worth posting. At least he trys for something a bit different. Max Silverman also has posted pictures of the Manx. Interesting because hardly anyone was there and the bird flew off. Also a lot rarer than a Dunlin or the oft mentioned Kingfisher.

The rarest thing of all though was that a photographer found a good bird. Well done Max; good shots!! (I hate smilies)

I can sense that some of you lot will have your shackles up by now. Just one final warning. I have known for a long time the few guys that find 95% of all the good birds in the County. Talk of suppression is a very real problem for all of us. Believe me it looks like it's gonna get a whole lot worse unless some people start behaving.

I got no problem looking at or not looking photo's posted on here, it's pretty easy to ignore them if you like. As you like crap one's so much, i'll have to start posting a few of mine :)
