What is you favoured shorthand for binoculars (1 Viewer)

I can add a poll on the thread if you want - just let me know what options you want and how long you want it to run for.

Bins personally.

My fiancee keeps saying "binocs" after watching "the Big Year".

Of course, I make fun of her for it. ;)

is this spam?

You could use spam, but I think it's a bit too opaque.

Very thinly sliced, of course, and a degree of transperancy does become apparent. Not too sure that any of the big players will start using it soon, problems with increasing the magnification beyond the power of 1 for starters, and 'issues' not so much of waterproofing, but of full degradation of coatings AND lenses in damp conditions (plus a funny smell of course).

There are probably a few other issues, but they would be quite cheap.

Could attract vultures though:eek!:

Back on track ... ;) You can call them anything you like of course.

Call mine bins though.

Wonder if there are any geographical divides to what folk call their 'Optics' (that's another one some may use) - Nockers and even Knockers are two more.

Might also depend on whether you consider yourself a birder, birdwatcher or optics enthusiast ...

I call them 'binos' and the wife calls them 'those f*@#*+G binoculars' in the sense of 'will you PLEASE move those f*@#*+g binoculars'

Still, you should hear what she calls my hiking boots..............

Binos, to avoid confusion with bins, but mainly because you want at least the 'o' from ocular in the word.

Binocs, glass. My impression is that both these terms are much more common in the States than in Europe. I don't think I've ever said or written "bins" or "binos"

And always "binoculars", "binocular" IMO being mere pedantry.

When I first joined the forum I saw people talking about bins and I did not know what they were. Had never heard that term before in Canada. It seems to be much more popular in use. I always thought a bin was a can to put garbage into. Or dust in England. Do you keep your bins in your boot? Personally I keep my boots in the trunk of my car.
