Just outside our area but White Billed Diver still off Portsoy, and between 8 and 10 White Billed seen from a boat in the Moray Firth (from very reputable source!) Get the scopes out folks

Birders from the Aberdeen area went offshore on the MV Gemini Explorer and had between 8 and 10 White billed Divers,off Portsoy.

Plumage ranged from full Winter to nearly Summer.

Hugh Addlesee saw 11+ birds between Portsoy and Sandend after the boat trip which were unlikely to have been seen from the boat - possible minimum of 20 birds in that area!

Where do they winter? We haven't ruled out whether they winter off Portsoy, but more likely these are birds from the Dogger Bank concentration (estimated 200 birds from our digital video surveys). They probably move to the Moray Firth to moult.

Try for the white billed off portsoy! Then trip to troup head for gannet colony. Plenty of other good places...... but I get paid to take folk there (ps if your stuck send me a PM
;-) and have a good trip.

I tried last year for the single white billed Diver without joy but I'll keep my fingers crossed one of these hangs around a while for me.
target this trip is Dotterel, Ptarmigan and Capercallie....Only had one previous trip and missed these three but I would gladly take a WBD too.

target this trip is Dotterel, Ptarmigan and Capercallie....Only had one previous trip and missed these three but I would gladly take a WBD too.

Snow Goose being reported at Burghead via Birdguides, no further info. Still very good numbers of Pink Footed Geese in Auldearn/Nairn area.

Waxwings still being reported in Bishopmill in Elgin.

Had to dig down for this thread... I needed to do so as I had a rare visit to the Moray coast this afternoon. Rather a lovely area. Two Curlew Sandpipers were at Lossiemouth, along with three Bar-tailed Godwits and a few other waders. Spey Bay was hard work in the wind. A Bonxie and a Red-throated Diver were offshore and a few Pink-feet were going over.

Helooooo! Been a while but some recent sightings for the area:

Long Tailed Ducks back on the Moray Firth
Little Gull and Little stint being seen up river from the Lossie Estuary, Grey Plover also on the estuary.
30 Redwings over Darnaway this evening.

A beautiful morning up here on the Moray Firth and although no rarities it was just one of those days it was great to be out in the Field birding.

Long Tailed Duck, numbers seem to be down on what I had on Friday, Common and Velvet scoter, Red Throated Divers dotted across the whole of the Firth and one Slavonian Grebe. Not many passerines although one Robin was getting run ragged by four or five "interlopers"

Grey Plover was still at Lossie Estuary yesterday.

Seems to have been an influx of Fieldfare in Moray today, quite a few flocks being reported around the Forres area.

At Lossiemouth, Purple Sandpiper and Snow Bunting at reported Harbour and Grey Plover still on the estuary.

First Fieldfare & Redwing arrived here at home, near Dufftown, yesterday but today has seen constant birds coming into the shelter belt around the garden. Seems to be far more than last year, especially of Redwing.
