December finished on 82 species, the joint lowest total for the month but narrowly missing the shame of the lowest ever monthly score (81) and just below the December average of 82.67 species. Missing birds included Skylark, Common Gull, Yellow-legged Gull, Feral Pigeon and House Sparrow

2018 ended with a total of 148 species, just below the long-term average (1984 to 2018) of 148.49 species.

Most obvious omissions from the list were Barnacle Goose, Goldeneye (for the second year running), Garganey, Bittern (for the third year running), Merlin, Sanderling, Little Stint, Curlew Sandpiper, Spotted Redshank, Bar-tailed Godwit and Great Black-backed Gull.

I will post a quick summary of the year's highlights later.
