Hello there,
I just start in bird recording. I just ordered the Tascam DR-100mkiii and a pair of em272s to test with the 22” Chinese Wok about the practicality during the trip (mostly family/work trip with a car). I am also looking for a good shotgun mic for a beginner. I have been reading forums about ME66 and it seems to be one of the best choices. Still most of the ebay sellers do not want to send to south east asia region.
I am running down to a few that are available in the $300-350 range, the Rode NTG2, NTG4+ and Sennheiser MKE600. All of them have lower spec than the ME66 (sensitivity/self noise). Rode NTG5 has very nice spec, comparable to ME66 but rather expensive for me.
I am wondering if there are many NTG2, NTG4+, MKE600 and NTG5 users that have real experience in bird recording? Are they really that bad compared to the ME66 as widely mentioned in the forum? It would also nice to hear alternatives from other brands as well.
Thank you very much,
Passakorn
