$1K binoculars experiences - Conquest HD, Monarch HG, Tract Toric, GPO Passion HD, Trinovid HD (1 Viewer)

In a 8x32....I would take the MHG.... but you forgot to include the older Meostar B1.1. For the 42x's...I haven't really compared but I did a lot of comparison of the 8x32's in the COVID times and had an extensive matrix/notes etc...as I tried them all out. Of course, and as always ....that is what fits my eyes.

I can't comment on the Monarch, Tract, or GPO,
But I have Meostars comfortably ahead of Conquests, and Trinovids.... and I'm a huge fan of Conquests.... amazing value for money, and I did really like mine.
I still get to play with my old Conquests, but the Meostars are optically superior.

I spent a lot of time looking at alphas and wowing over the views. I then looked at the Conquest HD and smiled big. They are beautiful, comfortable binos and the view it great. Great color, contrast and clarity. For a fraction of the price of the alphas, I happily went with the Conquest HD.

I also have the Meostars ahead of the Conquests and Trinovids but realistically, not by much... Now I like what Moose stated here '' For a fraction of the price of the alphas,". YES, by all means. I really feel that for the money, and unless someone is pretty anal / extreme / picky etc...about the smallest detail in viewing,....these $1000 bins (Meostars, Conquests, Trinovids, Kowa's, GPO's, .....) are more a run-for the- money and suffice just nicely. As I was just writing out that list, I noticed that Swaro was not within it. They used to have the SLC but no longer, right? And it was more like $1500 as I recall so somewhat in the middle, as well as the CL brand for the smaller version. So I would count them in the running although more on the $ side more. jim

Wow! I would have to believe the buyers of vipers, Terra’s , M7’s, and meopro’s say the same about the $1000 buyers.

Yes but don't lets have a race to the bottom of the bino market. Let's just agree that the best binos are the ones you have in your hand and that if you concentrate on the subject you are looking at and not on the bino you are looking through, most binos do a decent enough job.

Lol , agreed. I enjoy every minute when out with my daughters Diamondback in our local park. Never mis the NL’s or SF’s , as long as I don’t have them in reach😜

Or maybe one of the experts can answer my question.

An Alpha binocular is one where the manufacturing is of the utmost precision in all aspects - and the optical properties are the absolute pinnacle of what is possible.

Swaro's NL is the pinnacle of their line.

Zeiss' SF is the pinnacle of their line.

Leica's Ultra / Noctavid is the pinnacle of their line.

So in a nutshell? You are buying an optical experience that is at the very edges of what is possible by today design and manufacturing.

Hope that helps with your question - and to sum it up? 1900/3000 $ or there about.

Interesting thread. I do have a question. What is the exact dollar amount when a binocular becomes an "Alpha"?
While Leica, Swarovski and Zeiss are the three most commonly associated with the alpha class, there are a few others that typically cost far less, and yet are reportedly worthy of that classification.

Remember too, that a previously owned alpha, still remains an alpha. So at least in my experience, maybe roughly $1,000 or so, and on up to the moon.

So an $1800 binocular would not meet the criteria. For a new one, that is.

I think that $1000 mark is a little arbitrary. I do believe that the previous generation (FL, HT, BN’s etc. etc.) to the new kids on the block are still considered in the premium (alpha) category, and can be had for around $1000. Maybe that is what Trinovid was referring to, I’m sure if I’m mistaken he’ll correct me. Of course there are a few exceptions to the rule.

I think Ratal summed it up very well.

If a person was to name the best and most alpha binocular made to today, what would it be and how much does it cost?

I’ll ad to Ratal post.

Swaro's NL is the pinnacle of their line, $2400-$3000 (32 & 42).
There’s also the swaro EL line, $1900-$2800 (32, 42 & 50)

Zeiss' SF is the pinnacle of their line, about the same as NL.

Leica's Ultra / Noctavid is the pinnacle of their line , $1900-$2800 (32, 42 & 50)

Hope that narrows it down a bit. I would ad if your interested in buying what is considered the best, and your new to the hobby, that doesn’t mean you’ll see a major difference or if you will see any difference than from a new high mid grade optic in the $1000 range.

So....then it's a prestige thing?
