Sent this guy a pair of Zeiss Dialyt 10x40 b over 2 months ago, he never acknowledge recepit of the binoculars i had to call him to confirm he had them. During these last 2 months not 1 word from him, which sits at odds with his glowing customer reviews of binoculars being fixed and returned within a week....Ive tried calling him but he not picking up. Anybody else having issues with this guy ?.

What did the tracking show. If you sent by courier, many show an image of where they were left or even the hand over

The tracking shows they arrived at his address, when i called him he confirmed he had the binoculars, he also said rather snappily that he would now have to contact zeiss and see if he could get a pair of front lenses to replace the scratched front lenses. Which is why i sent the binoculars to him as he suggested via an initial phone call he could renew the front lenses

Well, for what it's worth, I'm just back from Hyde Park with a Zeiss West 8x30B porro that came back to me this morning after having arrived at ECBR for service 19 September. Gary H has taken some time to turn around some of my other binoculars, but out of production binoculars with limited parts availability (or none in the case of things like my 12x50B) need to be handled with care. If the front lenses of your binocular are scratched up and need replacement, it's really up to Zeiss to get replacements (if available, which they may not be depending on which version of 10x40 you have...) over to ECBR.

Good luck with your repair and, again, for what it's worth, my own 7x42 came back perfect - the bridge (that had developed a slight wobble) rock solid and the optics, that I had thought were good before, were startling. The only quibble I could think of was that the old and well worn rubber armouring was replaced by a brand new set which somewhat lacks the feel and character of the old. But I'm sure Gary thought he was doing me a favour by making my binoculars look like, as well as function as, new!

I agree he may well not be able to find replacement front lenses, but i would have thought that in the space of 2 months he would have been able to find that out , or find out that he can....Ive no idea as he has not contacted me once during that time period.....

Hi,

We received this binocular on 10 August and sent an email the same day informing that we had received it.

On 13 August we received the following message :

⚠️
Your email to keith*@*.co.uk has not been opened yet. Snooze for 24H, 48H or 72H (disable)

The lenses on the binocular, as you say, are badly scratched and need replacing. We have ordered these lenses from the manufacturer but they have not arrived yet. I did, as you state above, inform you that we would order the lenses as we had none in stock.
Everything else on the binocular has been serviced/ repaired and as soon as the lenses arrive the binocular will be shipped back .

FYI........... when you called this morning we were in a meeting and were unable to answer any calls.

Gary

This guy Gary called me today about 5pm when i was in the pub, and told me he sent me an email...saying he received the binoculars and someone would have a look at them.I told him i never seen it, so he resends today and i find it in my junk folder. So i moved him to my focused email account now, I can see above what he has said about this situation and i will go with his word, as i like to trust, till i dont trust no more than i react...hopefully i dont have to.

Keith, I've known and dealt with Gary for over 30 years from when he looked at and repaired my Leica Trinovids at their HQ in Milton Keynes. He's also cleaned and adjusted a pair of Zeiss Dialy 7 x 42 BGAT and supplied spares for my 8 x 32 FL. A more experienced and precise technician / engineer in older optics you will not find.......as he says and it is an issue sometimes, is finding the spares to carry out the repair. His glowing reputation is well deserved.

Yep. Hopefully maybe in the next 6 months i get back the binoculars i sent him and he has done a supurb job and restored them..i dont doubt his ability to do such a thing, i was just a bit concernced re the lack of feedback. If you guys are used to just waiting months and months for something like zeiss dialyt to be repaired then im afraid im just a newbie and didnt realise it takes so long for repairs to be carried out

FTR, I get it, and poor communication is frustrating. Just saying im glad such shops still exist !
I hope it was indeed an e-mail glitch and all turns out well ;-)

You could always send them to the manufacturer who may do them a bit quicker but be prepared to PAY, big time.

I can pay big time..its not an issue . What i wanted was someone to fix them and inform off the progress....Is that to much ask of someone ?
