Family: Callaeidae
Description
New Zealand Wattlebirds.
This group should not be confused with the Australian Wattlebirds, which belong to genus Anthochaera in the Honeyeaters.
This family contains attractive, medium-sized passerines, two of them extinct. They share:
- Short rounded wings
- Ten primaries and nine secondaries
- Long rounded tail
- Fleshy wattles at the gape, hanging down form each side of the face or attached to the skin
Taxonomy
Callaeidae is a family in the order Passeriformes.
Their exact taxonomic placement is still in debate.
