Identification
24 cm (9½ in). Resembles Rufous-chinned Laughingthrush, but ranges don't overlap.

- Broad black sub-terminal band.
Distribution
Found in a small area in the central highlands of Vietnam and adjacent Laos.
Restricted-range species with a very small range but obviously not requiring closed primary forest. Classified as vulnerable.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Also placed in the genus Ianthocincla.
Habitat
Broadleaf forest, forest edge and secondary growth. Recorded at 1350m to 1750m.
Behaviour
Diet
Feeds probably on invertebrates and vegetable matter.
Forages in understorey singly, in pairs or small groups. Very skulking.
Breeding
Breeding season from March to April. No other information.
Movements
Resident species.
