Overview

Socotra (part of the Republic of Yemen) is an archipelago of four islands in the Indian Ocean off the African coast, about 350 km south of the Arabian peninsula.

Notable Species

Over 170 species of birds have been recorded on Socotra. Of these, six are endemic: Socotra Cisticola (Cisticola haesitatus), Socotra Warbler (Incana incana), Socotra Bunting (Emberiza socotrana), Socotra Sunbird (Chalcomitra balfouri), Socotra Starling (Onychognathus frater), and Socotra Sparrow (Passer insularis).
