This species has been sighted in Asia, Indochina, Southeast Asia, Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, Borneo, Indonesia, East Timor, Island of Timor, Island of New Guinea, Oceania, Australasia, Melanesia
Taxonomy
This is a polytypic species[1] consisting of 6 subspecies.
Subspecies
- P. m. davisoni: *High mountains of southern Malay Peninsula
- P. m. barisanus: *Mountains of Sumatra
- P. m. montis: - *Mountains of Borneo (Kinabalu to Poi Range)
- P. m. xanthopygius: - *Mountains of Palawan (south-western Philippines)
- P. m. floris: - *Mountains of Flores (western Lesser Sundas)
- P. m. paulinae: - *Mountains of Timor (eastern Lesser Sundas)
Habitat
Lower and middle storey of montane forest and bamboo stands.
Behaviour
Very active birds.
Diet
Their diet consists of insects and small invertebrates.
