GS 665 GA ED made of matches?

I damaged the eyepiece mount on a GS52ED when the monopod fell against a gatepost. This was quite a hefty knock. Also damage to the rubber on the eyecup. All repaired and returned well within three weeks at a cost of £75. Scope as good as new.

    Holster type case for 7D + 400/5.6

Hi Roy I use the TT50 for a Canon 50D and 400 f5.6 lense. Not used it cycling but I find it sits across the back quite well when walking to keep out of the way when carrying other gear such as tripod and scope. I met you once down near Isley Marsh last year I think. If we were to bump into each...

    New Zeiss Spotting Scopes

Hi Kevin I had keen to purchase a high end scope for some time and wanted to compare the Zeiss New Diascope 85 with the other high end scopes (Kowa TSN 883, Swarovski ATM 80HD, Leica APO Televid HD 82) with particular interest in the new eye piece offerings (wide angled zooms from Swarovski and...

    GS52 and 40872 HDF Eyepiece

Hi Niels I've not done a direct comparison in the way you suggest but I think I will. I have been using it on the GS52 but tend to go out with either the zoom on or the 40872 depending on what I am doing. For instance if I go birdwating in woodland I will use the latter and the zoom for estuary...

    GS52 and 40872 HDF Eyepiece

Hi Chris Thanks for the reply. The eyepiece in question is a fixed EP. I'm pretty sure the code is 40872. Googling "Opticron 40872" shows Warehouse express carrying it and shows it as a 25x / 33x but does not specify the model of scope this magnification is achieved on. Cant find it at all on...

    GS52 and 40872 HDF Eyepiece

I have an Opticron GS52 and mostly use it with an HDF zoom. I also have an eyepiece with the code 40872 that I previously used on an MM2. I cant remember what magnification it gave on this but would like to know what magnification is obtained when used on an GS52. Can anyone help here? Thanks...

Comment by 'TwoDogs' in media 'Green Woodpecker'

It looked a good shot when you showed this to me on the camera screen; I passed you on the Tarka Trail at Yelland on that Sunday. Looks even better on the big screen; a nice composition.

    Best photography magazines

I also vote for "Outdoor Photography"; an excellent magazine. The weekly "Amateur Photographer" is also a very good source of information with in depth articles. I used to spend lots of cash each month buying hobbyist photography magazines and found most did not live up to the advertising; the...

Does anybody use the Canon 400mm F2.8L lens?

Similar question been asked on dpreview thread. I keep thinking about this lens as well. http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1029&message=32444318

    New Sigma "OS" lenses

EX Designation Perhaps these will not be as super expensive as people expect. Both the 50-500 and the 80-400 where branded EX (Superior build and optical quality in Sigma parlance). Neither of the two new super zooms have this. But lets hope optical quality is not compromised. Patrick

    Tamron 200-500 or Sigma 50-500

Hi Abirdy and vjack I have found some reasonable in depth reviews of these two lenses published by Amateur Photographer; a UK monthly magazine. They provide a service where you can buy collated reviews from back issues. I purchased online Lens reviews from 1998 to current. Overall there are 73...

Help Choosing Tripod for Bird photography and Scope Request

Thanks Andy B and Postcardcv An outbreak of consensus. I was thinking Manfrotto as a brand. The costs are a little less than what I am prepared to spend. I will probably go for the 501pro head and spend a a bit more on the legs. In the future if I need to upgrade the head the legs can cope. I...

Help Choosing Tripod for Bird photography and Scope Request

Thanks Jim Thanks for your input Jim. I shall check out the UK prices. If its a pound for dollar conversion this may be a little above my budget (£300-£450) unless I can get some good bargains. Thanks again Twodogs

Help Choosing Tripod for Bird photography and Scope Request

I am looking for advice on tripods and heads. I would like to purchase a tripod/head combination that is suitable for both bird photography and for supporting a scope. The camera lens combination is a Canon 350D/Sigma 50-500. I have not yet got a scope but will buy one in the future but hope to...
