    I saw a red kite today whilst driving on the A5. I was at Pentrefoelas, a few miles east of Betws-Y-Coed. Are kites common in this part of Wales?

    Why won't the redstarts return to the nest when I'm in the garden?

    I've got a pair of redstarts nesting in the wall of my barn. If they can see me walking in the garden they will not return to the nest but will wait on a nearby bush or tree and watch me until I leave the garden. Sometimes they perch on the entrance to the nest and watch me until I dissapear...

    The 7D has landed!!!

    In that case I can justify buying one to use as a HD video camera, as long as they've solved the aliasing problem found in the 5D. The Guild of Television Cameramen did a thorough test of the 5DII last month and it seems to be a flawed gem.

    I've just obtained my first stabilized lens and I've noticed that it makes an unpleasant grinding/whining noise for about 5 seconds after I press the shutter release/focus button. Is this usual?

    Nikon ML-L3 Wireless Remote Control for Nikon

    I used one (ML-1) with a Nikon FE for years, great piece of kit. I always set the reciever to be square on the the transmitter but it would work from 20 degrees either side.

    Handholding 300mm and 400mm lenses, do you remove the tripod ring?

    When handholding the 300mm F4 and 400mm F5.6 do you find that the lens is easier to hold if the tripod ring mount has been removed?

    Do you use the custom settings on your camera or do you simply use one of the preset modes such as shutter priority or programme mode? If you do you a custom mode, what settings have you used?

    I'm told that the link can be extended to over 100' by using USB to RJ45 adaptors and using a lonk cat5 cable.

    Does anybody use the 400mm F2.8 lens or is the 500/600mm always a better choice? I'm surprised that the 400mm (other than the F5.6 version) is rarely mentioned.

    I've got a few questions about the live view feature on my 40D and 50D cameras. What is the max length of USB cable that I could use between camera and PC? Can I operate the AF function remotely? What is the shutter lag time when using live view?

    Re: some of the above comments. Surely DoF is only influenced by apperture and magnification. If you fill the frame with a blue tit using either a 100mm lens at F5.6 or a 600mm lens at F5.6 you'll get the same DoF??

    I've got a hide in my garden which is about 6 - 8 feet away from my damson trees where the birds come to feed. I have a 400mm 5.6 but this often requires the use of extension tubes at this short distance. What would be the ideal lens for this situation? I always use a tripod and fluid video head...

    Using IR remote instead of long lenses

    I can't justify the expense of a long lens so I was wondering if using a camera that was pre-focused on a likely perch and fired by an IR remote would likely yield good pictures?
