    Onychoprion anaethetus melanopterus (Atlantic, inc. Northumbs . . .) Onychoprion anaethetus anaethetus (Australian waters . . .) Come the end of the year and you're on 999 species, and someone decides Bridled Tern needs to be split . . . :king:

    Haven't checked back through all the posts - before you can tick Eastern Cattle Egret separately, you have to have had a Western Cattle Egret - that means a cattle egret in Europe, Africa, SW Asia (west of about 60°E longitude), or the Americas :t:

    As with all taxonomy questions, simplest to look up on IOC and follow their decisions in every case. That way you get a reliable list. Bookmark the page to have it handy.

    But that's how it was 28 years ago . . . bird taxonomy has come a very long way since then. IOC is up to date.
