I suppose with so much detail, it's hard to say when it's finished. But what a beauty, well worth the wait.

Loving the greenfinches, excellent shape produced by the bold shading. The sign is coming along great. Suggestions for background would be volcanic rocks (how I saw my first in Lanzarote 10 years back) or on some rushy saltmarsh/golf course (how I got used to them in Wales)

yes, she's done, no problem. Perhaps as Woody suggests, an extension to the background just for aesthetics, but other than that it's finished and what a little cracker it is too.

lovely bird, not seeing them for ages hasn't stopped you from tuning into its character. It's going to be great, reminds me I should stop faffing on t'internet and do some painting myself today. (Got my own sparrows to do!)

I envy all those who can do black and white line work, I can just about manage using a biro like a pencil or black and white paint, but when it comes to balancing solid black lines and solid white lines to make an image I just can't do it. All these recent ones are truly inspirational.

superb illustrations that are full of life. House and Tree sparrows are still common here in France, but for how long. Tree Sparrows made a comeback in my native Midlands (if you can call a flock of 20 a comeback) whereas the House Sparrows are now quite an exciting bird to get at my parents'...

Agree with Tim for toning down the landscape (you were probably going to do this anyway). But keep the colours, they're superb!

I really like the idea for your B S Kite, but as you wanted some other ideas as for the composition, here is my take on it, of course, there is no such thing as THE composition, and there are endless possibilities, here's how I'd probably do it if it were my picture. First I'd make the painting...

Great to see you've started this thread, seriously, I want one of those tablet things, would save a load of paper! Having an evening of mistakes and starting again. That Curlew Sand is very special indeed.
