Jinshitan Sea Farming Pond March 14, 2012

Got out in the local area for an hour after school. White-fronted Geese the major highlight. My first record in Jinshitan but there is a place north about 2 hours where many can be seen late fall/early winter and probably again in March but I've never been up there then.

The ponds are a huge construction project. Dump trucks and machines everywhere. There still are some ponds and surrounding habitat left. All the fresh water areas are still frozen solid but the salt water areas are all ice free with some giant ice chunks still floating around. Temp was around 2 degrees but dropped to below freezing around 5:30. Wind was strong and the wind chill was probably around -5. Beautiful clear fresh day.
