As I understand it the short-toed treecreeper has a distinct brown tinge underneath which this bird has but it also appears to have a long hind claw

Treecreepers do have variable amounts of brown around the vent. This is not a short toed edd.

The black right angled 'notch' in the wingbar also suggests that this is not a Short-toed.

Yes it was taken in scotland, just outside Lanark yesterday. I stopped at some traffic lights and there it was so I jumped out and took this shot,much to the disbelief of the guy in front and I had not heard of a short toed treecreeper until I looked in my bird guide
