As I understand it the short-toed treecreeper has a distinct brown tinge underneath which this bird has but it also appears to have a long hind claw

If taken in Scotland Short-Toed would be a very very very long shot.

Yes it was taken in scotland, just outside Lanark yesterday. I stopped at some traffic lights and there it was so I jumped out and took this shot,much to the disbelief of the guy in front and I had not heard of a short toed treecreeper until I looked in my bird guide
