Very busy at the bird feeder today! (6 Viewers)

If you could send some of your Hawfinches our way that would be great;)

snow thick and falling

Snow is thick and falling
Cat prints reveal unwelcome intruder
Blackbirds squabble over suet
Great tits calling hhuit huit

In the cottage woodburner roaring
On this bitter arctic morning
Bird bath frozen starlings chatter
Boiling water breaks ice with a shatter

Dunnock scrambling under shrubs
Blue tits vainly look for grubs
Goldfinch top up empty crops
Grateful for food from the local shops

Neighbours child on noisy snow day
frightens flock of siskin away
Brambling come from far and wide
Bright white rumps they can not hide

Reed Bunting eyes seed scattered on ground
But human habitat is something new found
Woodpigeons flap around feeder tree
Clumsily knocking sunflower seed free

Fieldfare brought in by Siberian cold
And sight of chopped apples becomes more bold
One male blackbird defending his dinner
While his colleagues get fat and he gets thinner

Smaller birds flock to the feeders
A cold looking redpole all the needier
Ruffled feathers vying for space
Greenfinches chewing with little grace

Snow falling now thick and steady
Chaffinch shovel in snow but the woodpigeons are greedy
Starlings enjoying a breakfast right hearty
Magpies arrive and break up the party

Fifteen woodpigeons make everything sway
Its time to chase the darn things away!

Worked from home today due to predicted weather issues. Topped up the bird food and put out fresh water. Garden was full from start to finish - 3 GSW's (2 female and 1 male), male and female Bullfinches, Siskin, Nuthatches, Chaffs, House Sparrows, Marsh Tit, heaps of Long-Tailed, Great, Blue and Coal Tits, and a pair of Pied Wagtails - a record for our garden:t:

strangely, my usuals weren't particularly interested in food, maybe neighbours all put out lots of food in sympathy in the snow. but when i replaced the ice with water they went to it. amazingly, a wood pigeon even started to bathe but didnt follow through.

Baby Thrush already

Is this early for a young Thrush ?

Hi Cog. There's a few around today.

We had 20+ Blue Tits and heaps of other common species. Surprisingly the Woodpeckers were a no show. Did have a new addition to the garden list which, given where I live was very surprising - 2 Lapwings flew over.

Hawfinch

A lot of Hawfinches about lately.
This one was in the garden on Wed's and possibly has a yellow ring on it's leg ?

Stop it now. I'm jealous enough already:eek!:

Haven't seen a Yellowhammer around here for years. They're on The Gower and I remember seeing one at Kenfig Pool a few years ago but that's it.
