Very busy at the bird feeder today! (36 Viewers)

Pied wagtail has been down picking off a few calci worms this morning. Be very happy if he became a regular visitor.
So looks like he's decided to stay. Constant visits for one calci worm at a time 😂 . Scoots along the ground into the cage, picks up one single worm each time and runs across the garden with it before flying off.

If it's sunny he'll sometimes change up the diet and pick off one of the spiders sunning themselves in the heat.

We have a a fair amount of activity now all the baby birds are fledging. Lots of newly fledged Jackdaws being fed on the lawn, including nearly having one crash land into me the other evening. It did eventually make it up into the trees after avoiding being fox food!

A new bird yesterday which I’m pretty sure was a Garden Warbler!

6 robin babies running around today picking up the meal worms I scattered about for them. They are my favourites.
The place has gone mental with all the young and my pocket is poorer for it. I do feel like a rich man watching all the young and haggered parents flitting about in dark and damp west Yorkshire.

The new bird bath arrives Tuesday earlier than expected. I might have to put it where it is to go but without water for a few weeks. I don't want to attract the magpies in case some are still nesting in the trees where it will be situated. When do gold finches and bullfinches finish nesting. They have young about the feeders now, but could there be still late nesters?

Female house sparrow visited this morning, only the second we've had since moving here 3 and a half years ago.

As the first was a male I can now say we have a pair of sparrows 😂

Bloody squirrels...they've finally busted my system. I noticed it a few weeks ago and wondered how they were bypassing my torpedo squirrel buster. Turns out they were using my squirrel buster feeder as a climbing frame. I've now ditched that for another finches friend that doesn't hang as low. If that fails then I'm afraid it's the shotgun🤣🤣

Well the squirrels are undeterred, relentless more to the point.
This morning I caught one trying to climb my feeding station but defeated by the torpedo. This didn't stop it. It climbed back down and disappeared out of view and I thought 'got ya ya little bugger' but no. Within 10 seconds of elation I saw the bloody thing fly through the air and missed. On its third attempt it latched on to the feeder. I banged on the window and off it went.
Luckily finches friends now make cages for their feeders. A bit expensive but I will make my money back quite quickly in seed savings. I will post a review when they arrive.

The male was down earlier and had a feed. Officially a resident bird now :p

right they have arrived. The finches friend anti squirrel cages.
They are quite heavy and well made. The aren't cheap neither. After assembly I can't think why they have made them so heavy or big. I think finches friends may have missed a trick. There's no need for the top cage and could have designed a cage that fitted over the clear cylinder and bowled under to protect where the seed actually dispensed. Do they work...well I don't know as yet but I guess they should. The birds in the half hour I've been watching seem to struggle but the tits have worked it out. The green, bull and gold finches just land high up and give up. Maybe if they watch the blue tits at work they will get it.
