This was our last mist net visit this winter. Bird behaviour changes markedly at this time of year so we tried different timing, starting just before mid-day. Despite the fact that the neighbouring field has been sown, drawing the flock away from the feeding station, and the fact that the wind got up, this catch was comparable to our last using conventional timing (though the wind also got up then). The flock feeding in the field often reached about 50 birds. A walk along the hedges suggested about 150 yellowhammer, chaffinch and tree sparrow present.

Mainly forgetting corvids, game birds, gulls, pigeons and tits.
