Learning outside the classroom :news:

The Real World Learning (RWL) Partnership welcomes the Government's Learning Outside the Classroom manifesto announced today (28 November) and believes it provides a positive step forward in allowing every child to experience learning outside the classroom.

Out-of-classroom learning makes a unique contribution to a child's education and offers many varied benefits to them, not least developing a sense of place and wonder for the world around them.

Organisations and charities involved with promoting out-of-classroom learning, such as those in the RWL partnership, believe that the Government now needs to act further to tackle the barriers currently stopping children getting out of the classroom to learn.

Action still needs to be taken to address adequate teacher training and risk management, OFSTED inspections and the low profile out-of-classroom learning currently receives.

The Government's Learning Outside the Classroom manifesto...provides a positive step forward in allowing every child to experience learning outside the classroom.Anthony Thomas, Chair of the RWL campaign says, 'The partnership strongly welcomes the Manifesto and the commitment it represents. We will continue to support an entitlement for all children, and the integration of out-of-classroom learning across the curriculum.

'We very much look forward to the Government matching the manifesto with action, so all children, regardless of background, get to enjoy the benefits that learning outside the classroom can bring.'

For more information on this long running campaign please see the Out-of-Classroom Learning policy link to the side of this page, and read our discussion paper Out of the Classroom: Into hearts and minds.
