Hi,

I'm about to order a manfrotto 501-head..
I need a good quick-release/plate to support my 400DO lens...
And I also need one for the swarovski ats-80hd..???

Any information will be appreciated!

Thanks,

Hi Ron now I will stand corrected, it's quite a while since I had/used this head but I do not think it will take a Q/R plate. In that the plate slides between 2 guides and as far as I can remember is fairly quick to take off anyway.

Hopefully someone who uses this head in the here and now can comment further.

Hi Ron,

It uses the 501PL plate, about 3 1/2" long. Works well with the ATS scope as that's what i use. Well pleased with the head, it's heavy but worth it.

Regards,
Cliff.

Yep, the sliding bit is the QR plate, I have a couple of the 501PL plates. If your scope/lens has both 3/8th and 1/4 inch threads, you can use two bolts on the 501PL and totally eliminate any scope/lens twist.

(Semi irrelevancy follows)

The price of a spare 501 plate is enough to make you go weak at the knees. Such is life.

I ordered two 501pl's extra.
So now you will get a total of three plates (one is included - at least in my 501). Anyway, it is a very good head for spotting scopes.
