Chicken feed (1 Viewer)

Hi,
Has anyone tried using chicken feed for the birds in the garden? You can, for example, get sacks of layers pellets for just a few pounds and I wondered if these could be soaked for general use for ground feeders. I would love to find something cheap and nutritious for the starlings and woodpigeons so the other ground feeders (chaffinches, bramblings, blackbirds etc.) could get a look in.
I am actually buying loaves of Tesco's bread (47p) and putting this out to supplement the mixed seed. The blackbirds actually prefer it to the seed.
