Black redstart in Bath (1 Viewer)

Having lived in my Victorian terraced house for 14 years I'd never seen much beyond robins, blackbirds, bluetits & occasional goldfinches in my small and precipitous back garden. Yesterday morning I was greeted by a black redstart, feeding on berries. I'm a bit of a novice so I needed my old guide to positively id it, plus a bit of Googling, but I'm certain that's what it was. Unusual for this time of year?

Hi and welcome to BF from all the staff here.
What a great garden tick, very jealous... you can see I'm a fan of this bird, by my avatar ;)
Yep, Black Redstart do winter here, notably around the coasts... but scarce is the word!

regards,
Andy

Black redstart do winter here mainly on the coast. We did have them winter here in Manchester last year and that was totally unexpected. like Andy ...I have a real soft spot for them.
