My name's Peter and I've just joined the Forum. I would like some help to identify this bird that I photographed at East Claydon, nr Aylesbury, Bucks, today. See a lot of red kites and buzzards there, but this doesn't look like either. Thanks.

You've got yourself an Osprey,

Hi there and a warm welcome to you from the entire staff here at BirdForum :t:

Hi Peter and a warm welcome from me too

That's a great spot for you. It needs someone with better eyes than mine to see if it's got a ring - I'm wondering if it's a returning youngster from Rutland Water. It's most likely not yet ready to breed, but may be looking around for next year, perhaps.

We are just so excited! We are going through all our photos to see if we can spot a ring. We're about 65 miles south of Rutland Water, and we spotted our osprey flying over a lake in the grounds of our local stately home, Claydon House.

Hello Peter, and welcome. Nice picture there and nice to have you with us.
