World Yearlist Record Attempt (1 Viewer)

At this rate is not going to have a lot of species to see in Spain, He can afford to spend time to get some localized species. He still have more than 100 species to see in Spain, but he’s going to see a good portion of them in Turkey.

I'm getting slightly less than 90 remaining Spanish targets - some of which will go in the next day or so in Turkey - Citril Finch, Marbled Duck, White-headed Duck, Red-legged Partridge, Common Quail, Little Grebe, Cory's Shearwater, Balearic Shearwater, Eurasian Bittern, Black Stork, Eurasian Spoonbill, European Honey Buzzard, Black-winged Kite, Black Kite, Red Kite, Bearded Vulture, Egyptian Vulture, Griffon Vulture, Cinereous Vulture, Short-toed Snake Eagle, Montagu's Harrier, Spanish Imperial Eagle, Booted Eagle, Bonelli's Eagle, Lesser Kestrel, Eleonora's Falcon, Water Rail, Spotted Crake, Common Moorhen, Purple Swamphen, Red-knobbed Coot, Little Bustard, Great Bustard, Black-bellied Sandgrouse, Pin-tailed Sandgrouse, Pied Avocet, Eurasian Stone-curlew, Collared Pratincole, Kentish Plover, Ruff, Mediterranean Gull, Audouin's Gull, Yellow-legged Gull, Little Tern, Rose-ringed Parakeet, Great Spotted Cuckoo, Little Owl, European Nightjar, Pallid Swift, White-rumped Swift, Common Kingfisher, European Bee-eater, Dupont's Lark, Calandra Lark, Greater Short-toed Lark, Thekla Lark, Tawny Pipit, Black Redstart, European Stonechat, Black Wheatear, Common Rock Thrush, Zitting Cisticola, Common Grasshopper Warbler, Savi's Warbler, Western Olivaceous Warbler, Melodious Warbler, Moustached Warbler, Sedge Warbler, Dartford Warbler, Spectacled Warbler, Subalpine Warbler, Sardinian Warbler, Western Orphean Warbler, Western Bonelli's Warbler, Iberian Chiffchaff, Common Firecrest, Wallcreeper, Southern Grey Shrike, Woodchat Shrike, Azure-winged Magpie, Cirl Bunting, Slender-billed Gull, Eurasian Eagle-Owl, Red-necked Nightjar, Alpine Accentor, Bearded Reedling, Spotless Starling, Red Avadavat & Indian Silverbill.

Indeed half a dozen or so are likely to have gone today.

Either way, he has to have a fighting chance of having beaten 3,000 by some margin before he leaves Spain and possibly even odds on to have beaten the current record before he has left Africa on 10th September?

All the best

Interesting he needed Yellow-legged Gull after the Fish Owls; there were a few on the reservoir on Friday; perhaps he went to the other FO site?

cheers, a

I doubt that there is a need to be that Sherlock Holmes about it. Between Darpinari (2896 Turtle Dove) and Korucak (2898 Black-eared Wheatear)?

That said he may have forgotten the Herring Gull complex taxonomy as he did well not to see one all day!

If you look at these locations listed on a map, he really must have seen the Fish Owls at an eastern site, not in the Side-Akseki area.

He certainly appears to be doing a very good job. One hell of an advert!

All the best

He's very good. Recently he found Syke's Warbler in Turkey. Probably the most avid twitcher in the country and a good guide. I guess the Fish Owl is at one of his "private" sites which they try to keep secret as the are accessible by foot and more prone for disturbances.

Actually 19 of those gone today:-

http://www.audubon.org/news/the-species-list

There remain (I think) 70 Spanish targets but with two full days to go in Turkey plus any time on the third day, he may end up down at less than 50?

Citril Finch, Marbled Duck, White-headed Duck, Red-legged Partridge, Common Quail, Little Grebe, Cory's Shearwater, Balearic Shearwater, Eurasian Bittern, Black Stork, European Honey Buzzard, Black-winged Kite, Black Kite, Red Kite, Bearded Vulture, Egyptian Vulture, Griffon Vulture, Cinereous Vulture, Montagu's Harrier, Spanish Imperial Eagle, Lesser Kestrel, Eleonora's Falcon, Water Rail, Spotted Crake, Purple Swamphen, Red-knobbed Coot, Little Bustard, Great Bustard, Collared Pratincole, Ruff, Audouin's Gull, Rose-ringed Parakeet, Great Spotted Cuckoo, European Nightjar, Pallid Swift, White-rumped Swift, Common Kingfisher, Dupont's Lark, Greater Short-toed Lark, Thekla Lark, Tawny Pipit, European Stonechat, Black Wheatear, Zitting Cisticola, Common Grasshopper Warbler, Savi's Warbler, Western Olivaceous Warbler, Melodious Warbler, Moustached Warbler, Sedge Warbler, Dartford Warbler, Spectacled Warbler, Subalpine Warbler, Sardinian Warbler, Western Orphean Warbler, Western Bonelli's Warbler, Iberian Chiffchaff, Common Firecrest, Southern Grey Shrike, Woodchat Shrike, Azure-winged Magpie, Cirl Bunting, Eurasian Eagle-Owl, Red-necked Nightjar, Bearded Reedling, Spotless Starling, Red Avadavat, Indian Silverbill, Black-bellied Sandgrouse & Pin-tailed Sandgrouse.

90 additions in Turkey in two days is a remarkable achievement. That is reinforced by the fact that yesterday was his highest species addition since February:-

We saw at least 21 of those in Turkey with Emin last month. Some were on migration, so may now be too late. To get all of them in Spain would entail a lot of travel!

He has time, four days for less than 50 species, but some of them are tricky at this time of the year, so realistic is going to see what? Spotted Crake, Grasshopper Warbler and Sedge Warbler are scarce to say the least, Ruff can be a problem, the rest are doable.

2990 Desert Finch. So 10 to go then :)

We had Trumpeter Finch and Little Swift in Turkey with Emin last month, so they could be on too!

I wonder if they are they going to Birecek - certainly some debate on other threads as to whether it was safe to do so. Desert Finch suggests they must be down there somewhere..
