A very obliging bittern walked out infront of Island Mere hide in the sunshine.

    Bittern

The Bittern was just passing through a gap in the reeds, so just managed this shot before it sank back down again.

Several people commented on my last Bittern posts about focussing among the reeds, almost all of my photos are taken handheld with autofocus but for these shots I used a tripod, live view and manual focus

    Bittern flight

Taken at Lakenheath Fen last weekend, saw 5 bitterns in flight (probably 4 birds). This one taken from Mere hide, someone shouted "Bittern" as it flew overhead, I was pleased to get it, only had a split second.

    Btittern from the front

Bittern from the front - this is the same bittern as I posted yesterday, only from the front. I was around the back of those reeds when I first spotted it and took yesterdays photo.

    Bittern in hiding

Bittern in hiding - A nice day yesterday the sun was out and so was I. The reeds where I went were very high and thick so all three images posted today were manually focused through the reeds. I played hide and seek with this bittern for 2.5hrs... I think I won. Lol
