  1. It's raining again!!!

    It's raining again!!!

Poor wee Coal Tit - looks like he's being dripped on LOL This was taken at our Mause feeders. Today was lovely and sunny, though quite windy; and I was entertained by a farm hand driving his tractor round the field turning the cut grass (presumably for hay).... he was being trailed by loads of...
  2. What is that!!!

    What is that!!!

He seems rather unsure about what might be amongst the peanuts! Great Spotted Woodpeckers are regulars at both feeding stations (this is the lower one). This was a male at the end of May, we'd not seen the female for a while. Saturday Fun
  3. New visitor

    New visitor

A Eurasian Jay decided to test out our feeders in May (a little over a week before this image was taken). Once he found the nuts he was hooked and we see him just about every visit now. In fact one day I saw two, but the other one didn't come down to the feeders but stayed up in the trees.
  4. It's Magic!

    It's Magic!

Down at the Craighall feeders for a change, a Eurasian Blackbird decided he liked the food we'd put on a gate post. But was wondering how on earth that peanut was levitating just under his bill. Saturday Fun
  5. The answer...

    The answer...

.... is Chaffinch. Well done to JJ and Ove for getting this mini quiz right. And also to Ove who spotted my error. I gave you all a massive clue by including the scientific name in my upload <ooops> didn't mean to do that LOL. - Ove seems to have been the only one to see it!!! So this was the...
  6. Quick departure

    Quick departure

Caught me out rather. Anyway thought I'd post it as a test for you... Name that Bird Saturday Fun
  7. Really pleasing

    Really pleasing

It was such a pleasure to see that Yellowhammers were making regular visits to the feeders at the Mause feeding station. I've seen them on tables before, but not noticed any on a tube feeder, at least not that I can remember.
  8. At long, long last

    At long, long last

I get a picture of a Jay. My usual view of them is a disappearing white rump into the trees. This is the first picture I've taken of one in Scotland and here he was at the new feeding station we set up at the beginning of winter last year. We were sitting in the car having lunch when I caught a...
  9. Buried treasure maybe

    Buried treasure maybe

Long-tailed Tits are now in pairs rather than the larger flocks of winter. A pair are visiting our new feeding station that we set up in November. I really cannot understand why he's not interested in the easier to get suet log LOL Saturday Fun
  10. The fog must have spoilt his view in the mirror!

The fog must have spoilt his view in the mirror!

Last Sunday we headed off up into the hills and glens.... the further up we got the thicker became the mist, until it was real fog!!! We stopped for lunch at a favoured spot where we'd seen quite a few species the year before.... but oh so quiet just the occasional Meadow Pipit or Skylark...

    Unknown bird call- Paris

Hello, does anyone know this bird call in Paris? Apologies for the noise of the rain
  12. Swing time

    Swing time

There seemed to be a bit of "push, pull" going on with this feeder, as it was swinging around a bit. Not sure if the House Sparrow knew the Greenfinch was on the other side LOL Saturday Fun
  13. Working towards the next generation

    Working towards the next generation

I managed to get to Kinnordy at last and got into the hide. The last time I attempted this the car park was full of construction vehicles as they're 'improving' the path to Kirriemuir. Seems they have now moved on to the second phase, further along. Anyway.... I got into the Gullery hide to see...

Best Central/South American Country for Birding--Late May

I am thinking of visiting somewhere in Central/South America in late May for birding. Can anyone recommend me a good country/region for me to go? Here is the plan: I have around 10 days I have never been to Central/South America so I don't have particular species in mind, although I would...
  15. Clashing colours

    Clashing colours

Mmmm.... I don't really think pink goes with orange, does it. We'd put a few tit bits on the gate post on the opposite side of the track to where the feeders are. Robin came in for some suet nibbles.
  16. Book Ends

    Book Ends

Though not quite a matching pair!
  17. Taken possession

    Taken possession

It appears this lady has decided this part of the feeding area is hers and is daring anyone else to try and take over.
  18. It's strange

    It's strange

The birds hardly touch the nuts at home, but I have to refill the feeder every time I go to Craighall. Mind you, I only get very rare visits from a Great Tit at home, Craighall has several, along with Red Squirrel and Great Spotted Woodpecker.
  19. Checking things out

    Checking things out

Blue Tits are always a delight, aren't they.... especially when one sits still for a moment. Think he was either waiting his turn at a feeder or just checking to make sure it was safe to go in.
  20. Disappearing act

    Disappearing act

... and so well timed too, wasn't it! Frustrating, as I don't have too many pictures of a Robin at Craighall.
  21. I don't often notice...

    I don't often notice...

....the pretty pink tinge to the upper breast area. Must have just caught this one in the right light and the right angle. I've also noticed that the woodies are mostly keeping away during the day and coming to the pole feeder in the evening. Not sure what caused this change of behaviour...
  22. Getting brave

    Getting brave

This was the first time I'd seen a Jackdaw on the pole feeder so just had to take his picture. Not seen one there since though LOL TTTW
  23. At last

    At last

The very end of May and at last some babies start to appear. Well.... one is a start. With the cold, wet weather throughout May, it delayed nesting quite drastically. Here's a proud dad giving his new hungry bairn a feed. TTTW
  24. Night crooner

    Night crooner

We didn't have much good weather during May, but very often the rain eased off and it warmed up just as the sun was setting. Through the open window I could hear a Song Thrush, so went to investigate (even though it was all but pitch dark, there was enough to discern his outline. Not too sure...
  25. Divorced?

    Divorced?

... why wasn't this female siskin eating at the same table as hubby I wonder? Seemed strange that he was on the tray and she was up the tree. TTTW for SF
