Great Spotted Woodpecker & Ring-Necked Parakeet

While watching this woodpecker on the feeder, this parakeet would, every now and then, jump of its branch and try and force the woodpecker off, after a bit of luck I managed this shot during the attack! (It still didn't move the woodpecker though!)

Not wholly welcome, in that they take food intended for Goldfinches and other small birds. But they're photogenic, both species are doing well here, and in any case, according to the Natural History Museum (London): “Tawny owls, sparrowhawks and peregrine falcons will all feast on parakeets...

    Rose-ringed Parakeet (female)

If this looks familiar, I already posted a shot of it with the wings flat. It will be the last shot of this individual I'll post :) I don't know if the bright colour makes this species more obvious to Peregrines, but their loud calls do announce their presence. The falcon does take these birds...

Female bird. I wondered if it was carrying the snipped-off stem as material for lining a nest hole. Google gave no clear answer, but while searching I found a paper in the academic journal Current Zoology, which is worth quoting: "The rose-ringed parakeet Psittacula krameri is one of the most...

Thanks very much for the comments on the flight shot of this bird. I've no idea what the orange berries are, but the parakeet seems to like them, or at least think them worth checking out. Thank you for your comments, stay safe and well. John
