And the winner is ... (chapter 1)

Hi folks. Long time no post. I'm nowhere near caught up with posting my shareworthy shots from last summer's California trip, and Monday I take off for California again. So I'm skipping ahead to recent shots before I take off. This one is resized to share here, so it should show, although the...

    Fieldfare age & sex, 17 May 2022

2cy spring based on the pointed (if worn) tail feathers? the photo is against the sun, so I'm not sure if the colour of the tail feathers can be used to confidently determine the sex I've seen a fledgling close to this nest (though on another tree), so what is shown may be feeding, not...

Fieldfare's song, 20 Jan, Warsaw, PL

This morning I saw a singing Fieldfare perched in a tree that had indistinct and limited spotting on the sides of its belly and only a small area of yellowish orange suffusion at the upper breast, under the chin (= 2cy spring as per Blasco Zumeta's pictures?). Its song reminded me of Eurasian...

Their Norwegian name, literally translated, is Grey Thrush. Here you can see why.

    Fieldfare field day 2

When they stand still looking contemplative, it usually means they're about to poop. I didn't catch that on "film" either, but then I didn't intend to.

    Fieldfare field day 1

Oct 8 the Fieldfares came for the sargent apple berries. I got a whole "roll" of shots, some of them quite good one way or another, but none that showed a bird doing that "bar trick" of tossing back the berry. Oh well. Maybe next year.

Fieldfare (Turdus pilaris): In winter they try to fill themselves with the few berries left, left by the blackbirds.

In February 2919, looking out of my apartment window, I noticed some Fieldfares picking the rowan berries from a rowan tree at my window, and it even had started snowing. I love this scene. So, I quickly fetched my camera and opened the window completely to create this short video clip of...
  21. Fieldfares

Ours are away since November. A flock of these is now here for a week or so. I believe they are on migration from Northern Europe to Southern Europe. Pretty late maybe, I do not know, but they are way more shy than the ones that breed here. Above zero in the next days, maybe Munich is the new...
