Drive-by Birder
Just got back from a week in Puerto de la Cruz in northern Tenerife. I went with my wife and did not get the chance to do much birding as we did not hire a car so missed on many endemics. The bird list was (* means life bird to me)
Cory's Shearwater*
Little Egret
Osprey
Eurasian Sparrowhawk
Common Buzzard
Common Kestrel
Lesser Black-backed Gull
Yellow-legged Gull
Sandwich Tern
Feral Pigeon
Eurasian Collared Dove
Barbary Dove (one white one seen in Puerto de la Cruz - not added to my life list)
Monk Parakeet*
Tawny Owl
Great Spotted Woodpecker
Berthelot's Pipit*
White Wagtail
Common Blackbird
Canary Islands Chiffchaff*
Common Chiffchaff
African Blue Tit*
House Sparrow
Island Canary*
European Greenfinch
In addition on a brief stop inthe Bosque Esperanza I heard a chaffinch sp call but couldn't see any birds, also heard goldcrest like calls which I assume were Tenerife Kinglet but I am not familiar with their calls. Also over the hills behind Puerto de la Cruz my wife pointed out a large raptor which was a peregrine type falcon but it was too distant to say that it wasn't a Peregrine.
