Advice on Malay Peninsular trip-timing? (1 Viewer)

Hello,
I'm looking for advice on the best time to visit Malaysia for two weeks. Intending a very sedate trip, catching just two sites: Teman Negara and Fraser Hill. It'll be my first time birding SE Asia, and I have a rather small window of opportunity: mid-August to the end of October. Since most of what I'll see will be new, I'm thinking that the deciding factor is probably going to be the weather. Obviously, Pittas would be great but I'm not loaded down with great expectations. Mammals and herps, butterflies, moths, etc. pretty much anything to blow a naturalist's mind.
Many thanks in advance for whatever good advice comes my way.
Cheers

Hi Paul and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

I've moved your post to the Information Wanted forum and subscribed you to the thread so you can find it easily. I think you're more likely to get the information you're looking for in that forum.

Meantime I hope you enjoy your time with us.

Hi again Paul

One thing you might try, while waiting for 'the knowledgeable ones' to come in, is to search the Gallery for images taken in the area. They might help you with deciding on a time.

You can access Malaysia from this Opus article.... scroll to the bottom and you'll see a yellow Gallery search link. Just click on it.

As mentioned by James Eaton in other topics, birding can be good at any time of the year and there is not so much of a rainy and a dry season in peninsular Malaysia, so just go.

You won't need to worry about too much rain in that window. More likely is some smoky haze as it's when the indonesians will likely be burning Sumatra...but don't let that stop you.

You'll have a great time any month of the year, Paul, as temmie states, doesn't matter when you go really. Malaysia has more-or-less missed it's monsoon past few months so everything is incredibly dry, and the smog from Sumatra's burning forests is already here, if it rains between now and then it will be great for you, otherwise it'll make everything that little bit harder as its very noticeable how few birds are singing.

Thanks everyone,
reckon I'll make it September. Maybe catch a glimpse of the odd early migrant - I only plan on visiting Taman Negara and Fraser Hill, lazy I know, but pretty much everything will be new for me. My first personal birding trip for many a year!
All the best,
Paul
