Animals skinned alive (1 Viewer)

Hi John,

I have signed the petition. Words fail me.

Sorry, I couldn't stomach the video. I have seen one similiar before, I am not sure if it was on BF or another forum. Regarding lack of response, maybe the time of year with shopping etc is taking members time. I hope you get a great response to the petition as befitting a forum such as BF!

Thank you for all the information, John.

I have signed, I made myself watch but without sound, I am sick to the stomach I felt like I was going to pass out at one point. I am utterly disgusted that this sort of thing still goes on in this day and age.

Thank you for making me aware John.

Thanks to those that have responded so far but I think this will be the last time I move the topic to the top of the pile. There obviously isn't the interest on this forum. So far 278 views for 23 replies (7 from me & 3 from borealowl47) and yet in a far smaller forum we are up to 2302 views and 211 replies.

John

I'm not sure if this is in the right forum or even if I should be putting this on Birdforum at all but this subject has been put on another forum and has sparked off a flurry of action over a video that was linked to it.
John

Too be blunt my view is this thread shouldn't be here on an "open" forum site - in particular the link. By all means move it to a closed consenting adult forum. I would be horrified to think that my kids (or anyone else's) had been exposed to the contents of the video - I haven't seen it & don't intend to, having received a description of it via work. There's no need for right-thinking people to expose themselves to such stuff. It's also available via another open forum supposedly dedicated to the promulgation of natural history which claims to provide an educational resource used by schools... and that's a disgrace too, both by the poster and the moderators who let it through. Think before you act. Consider the suffering you have inflicted on others less able to deal with it than yourself. Be responsible in your posting. And ethical.

It's not pleasant what's been happening but it's no reason to censor a valid subject for discussion. Maybe too many have turned a blind eye to atrocities like these.

The initial post does carry a warning about the content of the link - it's up to the member to decide whether to view it or not.

I assume this post is a wind-up...("haven't seen it, don't intend to" etc,), yet happy to judge its suitability or otherwise on the Forum!

The sooner anyone's 'kids' can identify and condemn barbarism and its graphic reality portrayed here, the more chance there is of it being stopped.

Anarchic humbug. I've never seen a rape either but that doesn't mean that watching a particularly messy one on film is an essential prerequisite to believing it's wrong. But if you've got underage kids, you can follow your own line. I just wouldn't advise it. In my view you can certainly be too young to be exposed to such stuff and I simply don't believe it's within the remit of BF to facilitate it.

Silly comparison.
Rape, 'messy' or otherwise is illegal in most countries.
The barbaric skinning of the creatures on the film clip is not, in that Country; it's part of their butchery process.
Any nearer to understanding the difference?

Well I'm thinking of showing it to my kids so that they know why I wont buy cheap trinkets etc with fur on them, you cant shield them from everything nor should you.
The word needs getting out and BF is as good a place as any it's not like the images are in your face, you have to make a decision to follow the link.
If I was in charge it would be shown on prime time television, never mind upsetting a few people, this sort of thing has to stop.

What does legality have to do with anything?. Beheading & death by stoning are "legal" punishments in some parts of the world & I would object very much to young children seeing them on TV. But jay-walking & other minor "crimes"? No, of course not. Would you?

How about it--beginning to understanding the difference?

You ****!

THIS THREAD IS ABOUT Reader's original Post, animals being SKINNED ALIVE. which upset him greatly and many others, including myself, who watched the clip of these barbaric practices.
Your attempt to use the Thread for your own 'clever' observations is unwelcome: go away and do it elsewhere.

That is sad, but I don't want to get into this riff-raff between member's so I will keep my mouth shut

You double ****! (How's that for getting down to your emotional & intellectual level)?

But that's it as far as I'm concerned. I'll waste no further time attempting to reason with a ******** like yourself (hey, these asterisks are a lot of fun!)..

Of course it is, there is no argument there. But don't worry about the "riff-raff"--tempers fray sometimes, but no real harm is done.

I do believe that everyone has a right to an
opinion. Agreeable or otherwise. As this sub order cannot
sink any lower in society than they already are. It is hoped
than any advancement in 'Humanities' will be considered a
step in the right direction.

I would like to thank the moderators for allowing this debate.
Also. for permitting the video to be shown. I,as many others,
had no idea of such goings on.

Seasons Greetings,
young Ian.

Disgraceful if true. Unfortunately some of us will not sign anything linked to PETA. To me they have absolutely no credibility and will do anything to promote their cause.

Yes, I suppose this is the best approach, don't do anything!!!
We don't like change do we?

young Ian.

I watched the video and, apart from finding it utterly barbaric, I felt that, PETA's credence or not, it was valid to post it on this site ( or any other, come to that). As for it not being suitable for young children to see, perhaps not, but I'd sooner my kids see the truth of what adults are capable of than keep them wrapped in fluffy pink cotton wool!

Cynicism Ian, and from one so young!!!

I agree such material is entirely suitable for an open forum like BF. I disagree, however, with the implication of some earlier posts that young children should be deliberately encouraged to see it. IMO material of this kind is as likely to cause desensitization or nightmares in young children as to influence positively attitudes to animal cruelty.

At last some reactions, although some of them beggar belief. It's a shame that BF has such incredible characters that think it best to rubbish a post regarding such a barbaric practice as this is.

Regarding a closed forum, what would that achieve. This needs to get to as many people as possible and BF should be a magnificent vehicle for this.

I make no apologies about posting this video (and as IanF rightly pointed out I did give a severe warning about it). If it upsets some people then that's tough. If it upsets them enough it might galvanise them into some form of action.

Lets be honest, these images are out there on the net and can be accessed by anybody without guidance. At least on here a parent can make it impossible for a child to look at BF unless they want them to. It's called parental guidance and is the best form of censorship we have (with the exception of a few parents that haven't a clue how to bring kids up).

Obviously with very young children you would not want them to view these horrors but I agree with Mick, in post 29, that if he thinks his kids are ready for this, and some good could come out of it, then you should allow them to view it.

Please sign this petition but more to the point get in touch with your MP, your local newspaper, anybody that you think might help move it up a level. If you can do that who knows what might be achieved.

John
