Another Unknown bird - Heron? (1 Viewer)

I took this picture last June/July in North Carolina. It looks to be a heron. Does anyone know for sure?

Thanks in advance for your expertise. This is the only unknown bird picture I have left - the rest of my bird visitors are identified friends now.

Thank you all.

I had ruled out the Green Heron when I looked at its picture in the Bird Database (no neck).

A lot of the time they have the neck folded or tucked and it looks like there is no neck but then it gets extended and voila - medium-long neck appears. Barbara

I would have been forever wondering had I not joined the Bird Forum. Thanks again!
