Arrived Leica Trinovid 8x32HD first impressions (1 Viewer)

Hello all.

After the shenanigans with my swarovski 8x25cl my new Trinovid 8x32HD arrived this morning.

This is just a quick initial thoughts.

First of all not owning Leica before opening the box was just an absolute pleasure.

Lots of dark rich packaging and the little red dot just oozed class.

The binocular itself I have to say is finished to an exacting standard, very high indeed.

Super smooth focus with zero backlash or play, smooth dioptre adjustment, and lovely clickable eyecups.

This internal baffling if just amazing, having been into astronomy and telescopes I know the importance of good baffling and these are right up there.

The lens coating are a beautiful rich purple colour and blemish free.

Using the binoculars for a brief hour this morning I was not disappointed, I was a bit dubious about what I'd ordered after people saying small FOV and blue fringing and falloff at the edges, but my mind was at rest once I used them, the field of view to me was just fine, I won't miss anything and the view was immersive and enjoyable.

Chromatic Abberation (CA) aka blue fringing was not even evident using the binoculars as one would, I did have to go looking for it and eventually found a minimal amount looking at the dark roof line against the sky with hazy sun behind. This certainly isn't going to be an issue for 99% of people I'm sure.

Fall off at the edges of field of view, certainly wasn't noticeable and I wasn't at all distracted from the super enjoyable view at first, I did look for it, and yes although it does fall off a bit at the edges, it's minimal, and certainly doesn't distract from pleasing and views, (the type that makes you smile to yourself when your looking through) ☺️.

Sharpness is the same to me at least as good as my swarovski 8x25cl I had to return, beautiful crisp views indeed so no issues there.

Glare, haze, I have used them looking directly in the direction of the sun and sideways to induce glare or haze and nothing, just spot on.

The feel of the binoculars though while using them is a joy in itself, they are so tactile and feel quality, they even smell wonderful.

They may not suit the utter purist who spend £2-3K on binoculars, but everyone else I'm sure would be super happy for the £675 price tag in the UK.

The main thing is, any doubts I had while I was waiting for them to arrive were soon out to rest once I had them.

I'll give them another try out in the field over the weekend and give an update.

Thanks for now.

Happy Viewing.

Gary

What an excellent write up and set of photo's Gary.

I, and the many others who appreciate the lovely Trinovids, will be delighted that you are delighted.

As you so rightly say, the way that Leica present their products and the (unsurpassed IMHO) un-boxing experience adds an enormous degree of satisfaction. Tactile wise they are just beautiful.

Don't forget to register them once you have decided that they are the ones. I think that Leica are still offering the 2 year Passport scheme.

Enjoy your lovely bino's.

Thankyou I appreciate it.. I will get them out properly soon 👍🙏

How can you still read his dross if he's at the top o' yer list? Ever since I put him on the big 'I' I'm free of the verbal diarrhoea and just read others' reactions with amusement.
FWIW, posts like @Gaz1969uk's always make me wanna try out some Leicas.
Thanks very much, I just like to share my thoughts and hopefully help someone who's maybe after some. 🙏

Beautiful binoculars! I really like the pictures and your description of your first impressions. Now I feel like trying out a pair of Leica Trinovid HD myself:sneaky::giggle:

T’is true Tex! It’s the kindness in me, speshuly after a snifter! I just forgot to add ‘now’ after top of the list. Es tut mir leid.

just noticed you have a proper case! I got a silly neoprene soft zip pouch which I don't use. I store my Trinovid in a Swaro case.
I'll contact Leica to see if I can acquire a new case. very nice!

Great binos....
Great choice.
And I agree.... Leica just do a great job....
You will love those.... enjoy.

My mate and I were comparing the Leica 8x20 Ultras (mine) and Trinovids (his).
So little difference in the quality of the view.
You get better close focus on the Ultra, and Aqua Dura, and a centre dioptre adjustment (doesn't bother me)... but we both thought the Trinovid was the nicer bino in design.

Just quality, and you hear very few issues on here regarding Leica. They just work.... optics, straps, bags, build quality.... all good.

Yes I was expecting a neoprene one to be fair looking at the videos etc, but it's a well made one, I wonder why it differs?
Thanks Gary
