Arrived Leica Trinovid 8x32HD first impressions (1 Viewer)

Ah! Of course,

The MK2 self inflating one that replaced the brown Kriegsmarine, ‘Rettungsring mit Schwimmhilfe aus Beton’ which for some reason didn’t quite perform to DIN standards.
This is getting to be like an episode from Dad's Army or 'Allo 'Allo.
As Basil would say: "Don't mention the war."

just noticed you have a proper case! I got a silly neoprene soft zip pouch which I don't use. I store my Trinovid in a Swaro case.
I'll contact Leica to see if I can acquire a new case. very nice!
Case is same as current UV+ purchased a few weeks back (8x32).

Peeps I don't believe this, I'm back to square one, had to send the Leica back, they were giving me eye strain, headache even after short usage. I checked collimation best I could and they looked fine, eventually realised as soon as I put to my eye I felt a bit of strain I didn't notice at first.

I really don't know what to buy now.. they felt amazing.
I don't think with my budget £800 I'm going to get anything decent, I hate glare and haze effects, so not a clue what would be an alternative for my mere money.

Of course !
So reverse, and order the CLs !!
To be fair, Im very worried about ordering online and think I may have to have a run out to somewhere where I can maybe try some next to each other and take it from there.
I think there's in-focus at brockholes near Preston I may have a run there on Sunday.👍

You could try a pair of Zeiss next.
After that there is still Nikon, Maven or possibly GPO in the second row.
And on to the third row: Opticron, Kite and the back row ... Vortex, Pentax, Hawke, ...

We'll get years of entertainment out of this thread, I daresay.

It certainly ought to be possible to get a decent binocular at your budget, all mine cost less than that. But I've noticed some folks can be more sensitive to binoculars that are out of collimation (I think either Rg548 or Bentley of this parish might be) than others. It might have been worth asking Leica on this.

But without a doubt posts like yours bear out the oft repeated advice that nothing beats looking through binoculars with your own eyes and picking one that suits you.

That's were I'm going next, try then out in a shop next to each other, are there particular brand or models you'd maybe recommend pls, like you say maybe Zeiss, that would probably be the victory 8x25 or the conquest. Down from there other brands and particular you can recommend, models etc?
They don't have to be small, I don't mind 8x42 but it's just my budget that made me go tor the 8x32.
Thanks Gary

That’s too bad. I’ve read numerous positive comments and reviews regarding the Trinovids and haven’t come across any comments regarding eyestrain. The Zeiss Conquest 8x32’s gave me eyestrain though. Are you considering the Nikon Monarch HG 8x42’s? I sent my lower-end binoculars in for service, so I might try the Monarch M7 or HG 8x42’s. Good luck with your quest!

that's a bummer. I've never had eye strain with any of the Leica bins I've owned, but have had it with other binos.

I would try Zeiss Conquest HDX 8x32 next or if you can spend more try SFL 8x30.

If you decide to go up to full size binocular try SFL 8x40 (if within your budget) which is very light weight, slim and has top tier optics and a beautiful focuser. If SFL is too expensive there's Nikon HG 8x42 as Dennis suggests.

Maybe you'll be just fine with Kowa BD II 8x42 which is also super light weight (for 42mm), has a nice wide FOV and will save you some cash. It might not hurt to try the Kowa first. - my 2 cents

Gary, that is a crying shame but as you rightly say, if at all possible nothing beats testing before purchase as I have found out today with a pair of stabilised Nikons! They are on their way back pronto and I will drown my sorrows by getting the Trinovid 10x32's.

Some good advice in the posts above.. Not sure where you are or what distance you are prepared to travel but as you mentioned Preston and area and you have Cannock in your box the best place twixt both locations to test a variety of binos is:

https://www.focalpointopticsltd.com/

Great selection of optics.and top people.

As you started off compact and then went slightly larger may I suggest you have a close look at the Zeiss Conquest HD 8x32. Cheaper than the Leica and cheaper than its replacement, the HDX. It is is a belter of a bino and the only caveat I would add is that the eyecups can be problematic for some. Gary Hawkins at East Coast Binos will send you a replacement longer pair FOC. I have the 8x32 and the 8x42 Conquests with the extended eyecups and they are super bino's.

And to make things even cheaper have a look at the GPO ED 8x32. They, for the money, are a stunningly good bino and have more that a touch of the Zeiss about them.

The late, and great, Lee did a review on them

I have them and the 10x32 and they are cracking bino's irrespective of the price point.

Good luck.

As already mentioned. You seemed happy with the two bins you've already tried but for the (rare and unfortunate) quality-control problems. Which of those did you prefer, and why not go there again?

One other solid performer that (in my experience, anyway) has no particular bad habits, and is easy and comfortable to use, is the x30 Swarovski CL Companion B. They're a little over budget, but you may be able to negotiate a discount if you like them. Thinking out of the box a bit, if you are OK with lack of full waterproofing and a slightly inferior focus mechanism (compared to the very best), then Nikon EII porro prisms are pretty much universally appreciated.
