Arrow Valley Lake and Park (Redditch) (8 Viewers)

Agree with you about the visitor center; no good since it was franchised out. Bird feeders have been empty most of the year. Maybe they need some volunteers (Friends of Arrow Valley Lake?)
6 Shovellers this morning plus 5 Goosander. Also a large flock of Long Tailed Tits moving there way along what is left of the trees on the side of the lake.
Well done on the winter thrushes. I've not seen any yet apart from a large flock of possibles on Tuesday which disappeared once I got near them.

80+ Redwing & a few Fieldfare around park and lake this morning. Find of the day was a single Marsh Tit found at the bottom of Ipsley Church Lane. A real little gem.

There was an organised Santa Bike ride right past the end of lane which flushed the bird so I struggled to relocate.

I'm working on a blog to act as a bit of record of which will feature the Lake and Park.

Nice find with the Marsh Tit Neil. Not much of note around today - Shovellers and Redwing still present. Also a pair of Tree creepers.

Following a morning trip to the dentist this morning I found this chap among 180 Greylag geese at the Lake. It seems to be a Snow Goose, sure to be escaped but a strange find all the same.

I'd added a few photos taken through my scope. I'm on learning that art so excuse the quality.

Would be interested in some views on the Goose.

Hi Neil,

Yes, you're right. Snow Goose it is and probably the same one seen at nearby Morton Bagot this year. That too was with a flock of Greylags. Pics here.

Lovely around the lake today. Little Grebe still present (told they haven't been seen on the lake for a couple of years?), as were Shovellers. Tufted Duck have now arrived (just 3 at the moment.) Grey Wagtail busy feeding where the drainage ditch (Blacksoils Brook?) flows into the lake. Also a Common Buzzard high up in an Oak Tree opposite the large island; much to the annoyance of the Gulls.

Business as usual on Sunday morning. I did pass Mark another patch birder on way into car park. Large flock of Long Tailed Tits and Greylag however sailing pushed more of the birds either off to lake or to the corners. Very low flying Buzzard and Treecreeper rounded off a good couple of hours. More on the blog.

First Siskins (7) located this morning, 2 Bullfinches and a Herring Gull were patch firsts for this year.

Could only locate 1 Shoveller. Only saw 2 Redwings in 2 1/2 hrs ! Will update blog over weekend.

While driving towards Redditch around 9.15 today there were about 100 Jackdaws wheeling around like nurmering Starlings over the road and heading to the fields by the fishery north of Abbey G.C.
