Hi everyone,

I have a barn swallow nest on my front porch. I have watched them raise two sets of birds over the summer. We are in an extreme heat wave with temps well into the 100’s I saw two adults in the best yesterday kinda panting, today they are dead. What should I do?

Hi, welcome to this forum. I'm so sorry this post got buried under all the others. Sadly there isn't anything you can do, you could hand raise them but it would be diffucult and probably unsuccessful. I'm so sorry, I would be crying over them for a week.

Hi Catw and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. I'm really sorry your post wasn't picked up by someone before this. It's probably a little late now to help you with this incident. Swallows, Martins, and Swifts are rather specialist birds as they only eat small insects which are captured in flight. These would need to be taken into care by experienced rehabbers and, preferably, released in their natal area when ready to fly.

We have some general guidelines here for the care of injured and baby birds.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.
