Best guide for China (1 Viewer)

I know this one's been asked before... but mine is a rather specific request...

I will be undertaking a standard backpacker's route, flying into Beijing before moving on to Xi'an and then to Shanghai. I will do some guided birding around Shanghai but otherwise will be birding along the route on my own.

Basically, I want to travel light and wonder if I can get away with just taking Mark Brazil's 'Birds of East Asia'. I know it covers most of my trip (e.g. Beijing area and Shanghai coastal area), but Xi'an and the journey from there to Shanghai (probably via Huang Shan) are not covered by the Brazil guide... am I likely to be able to identify most things or do I need to take the McKinnon and Phillips 'Birds of China' instead?
