Help ID This Bird Call, Great Horned Owl? USA, North Carolina, Charlotte
Hi all!
I have been trying to identify this bird call and I can't seem to find a good match. I live in Charlotte, NC. It sounds like a large bird that lives directly outside of my neighborhood (we are surrounded on 3 sides by woods) and I've never actually seen it. It usually sounds like just one bird, but occasionally it sounds like two? It happens at any time of day, but it seems to be most active at dusk.
I have uploaded the recordings to sound cloud, below. It's the sporadic squawking noise (It sounds faint, but only because the bird is far away. The call is very loud):

If anyone can identify, I would love that! I really want to know what it is. Our #1 suspect is a Great Horned Owl, but the sounds are just a little too different from one another for me to feel confident about that.
Thanks everyone!
