I'd suggest checking eBird hotspot explorer and trip reports to get a feel for the area. Near means different things to different people, and birding desires range from all-out ticking everything possible to a nice walk in a park once in a while.

In Teresópolis: Serra dos Orgãos National Park. Easy access from Teresópolis. Good trails, can be accessed by public transportation from Teresópolis, also hotels can arrange taxi to take you in and pick you up after you are done. Much easier if you have a rental car.
