Birding in Maui in February (1 Viewer)

My wife and I will be in Maui in mid-February for a painting event. We will come early to scout out locations, but also to bird. Is it worth taking a tour, getting a guide, or just heading to the known locations? Any advice appreciated. Thanks. Bill

I don't think you need a tour. For birding, the key location is Hosmer Grove. You can get several of the widespread native forest birds, as well as the Maui endemic Mauai Alauahio. There are also some good wetland sites on the coast worth checking out.
