Hello, is this a Blackburnian Warbler ?
If so, is this a first-year bird or a female ?

Blackburnian is correct. I don't have enough exprience to sex it accurately, however I would guess that it's an adult female due to how bright it is.

Unless I'm totally making it up, my understanding is that the older birds leave first, and the HY birds normally stick around the breeding grounds longer.

As a general rule this is not the case in songbirds, young leave first - usually males before females, then adults. This is due to the adults doing a complete moult post-breeding which takes ~1 month, setting them back a couple weeks behind the hatch-years.
