Hello everyone is it possible to id with only a top view i took this lovely shot at Durlston country park dorset but couldnt get a look underneath,the diagrams in my book, "collins field guide" are very similar and i am no expert any help will be appreciated thanks paul

Hello Paul,
That's a male Common Blue P.icarus. A little past its best judging from the wear on the fringes on the wings. There isn't a lot of species that it can be confused with, except perhaps Silver-studded Blue.
