Hey can anyone telly me if I have bluebirds because I havent seen any on long island and im starting to doubt if theres any bluebirds in my area. I have erected a bluebird house and and birdbath and also fruit at my feeders and as soon as the weathers better im going to try mealworms.

I live in Long, island in the islip region if you got to google image youll see it pretty easily.

I really want to see bluebirds nest in my yard. And my yard is very loarge low cut and no chemicals. But now im really statring to doubt if theres any bluebirds. If anyone can tell me if there are blue birds on long island it would be most apprecaited.thank you

Libirder,

I am not aware of any bluebirds that have been seen in the Islip area in recent times. Islip is a pretty well developed area and Bluebirds prefer more intact habitat.

That is not to say there are no Bluebirds on Long Island. Lots of them can be seen at places like Uplands Farm in Cold Spring Harbor, Caumsett State Park in Lloyd's Neck, and the Calverton Grasslands in Riverhead.

If you are interested you can go to libirding.com and check out the sightings section over next few months to see if any bluebirds are seen in Islip. Of course any rare or interesting birds that are seen in your area will be reported there. I believe the Backyard Corner section is written by someone from East Islip, so you can check out some of the backyard bitds in your area.

You might want to check with your local Audbon or you could do a google search for "New York birding listserv"
There is also this site:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ebirdsnyc/

You can usually pick whether you want email updates as they come in or weekly updates but it really gives you a good idea of what birds are in what areas. Good luck and hope you get some Bluebirds.

Just to let you know, LIBirding takes the sightings from the EbirdsNYC group and several others, so there is no need to join.

Hey bebirder I go on the libirding site a lot of ive checked for eastern bluebird sightings and I think there was one but when I was searching around I came across this sight
http://www.bnl.gov/esd/wildlife/BlueBird.asp which kind of boosted my hopes because im fairly close to brookhaven. Hey bebirder do you see alot of bluebirds in your area. I really hope that there are in mine.

THanks for the site kc im looking through it right now

I live on Eaton's Neck in Northport, and have seen a few bluebirds around my house, but I have seen a lot more at Caumsett SP and Uplands Farm, which could be considered to be in my area.
