18mp does seem mental for aps-c, but the specs are saying "dual digic 4 processor" does the 50d have this, or is this something new, my thinking is 2 processors should do a really good job of keeping noise down?

The 50d just has plan old digic 4

A new rumour says Canon has a new type of sensor up it's sleeve, a bit like a foveon, which will give superb noise characteristics at high ISO. We shall see!
